Friends Campaign

Welcome to the Friends Campaign! The Friends Campaign supports the four major areas that comprise the Grand Rapids Ballet Company, Michigan’s only professional ballet company. Your support of the Ballet contributes directly to the future success of the Company in all these areas.

  • Professional Company
    We currently have 19 professional dancers from across the world bursting with emotion, technique and athleticism. Friends donors will help us add to the dancer roster next year.
  • Outreach & Education Programs
    We serve 20,000 children each year with unique opportunities to see and experience the art form of dance regardless of their economic or social situations. Donations to the Friends Campaign will help us present several school performances next season.
  • School of the GRBC
    Over 200 students are enrolled in our school at various skill levels. Your support would help us provide scholarships that cover tuition costs to those with financial limitations.
  • New Works
    In comparison to our peer ballet companies across the country, we are unique because 90% of the ballets in our repertoire were created and built right here in Grand Rapids. Friends Campaign donors have the unique opportunity of being a part of creating new works of art and furthering the art of ballet.

In addition to knowing you are “lifting the human spirit through the art of dance”, as a donor you will also receive donor benefits. 

We are committed to providing Michigan with professional productions, a school where students can receive the best dance training possible and educational and outreach programs for the diverse audiences. We rely upon contributions to support all facets of the Grand Rapids Ballet Company. Your tax-deductible contribution ensures that all may enjoy an art form that inspires. We ask for your support so that the Grand Rapids Ballet Company may continue its mission to “lift the human spirit through the art of dance.”

Stage 2: A Campaign for Ballet

The Stage 2 Campaign was designed to increase access to ballet through facilities, repertoire, and personnel expansion. The largest component of this $7.5 million campaign is the Peter Martin Wege Theatre and the recent expansion of the Meijer-Royce Center for Dance. While the facilities expansion is now complete, the Company is still seeking gifts to complete the Campaign and move forward with the other expansion components such as a new Nutcracker production and a new major story ballet. Donors may consider the following options for making a gift to the Stage 2 Campaign:

  1. Please be Seated: In recognition of your gift of $1,000 to the Stage 2 Campaign, you have the option to name a seat in the new theatre. You may choose to honor or memorialize a loved one, or list your own name as a supporter of the Grand Rapids Ballet Company.
  2. Make a gift of $500 or more to the Stage 2 Campaign and your name will be recognized on the donor wall in the lobby of the Peter Martin Wege Theatre. (Those choosing to name a seat will not be automatically listed on the donor wall.)
  3. Your gift at any level will help us meet our goal. All donors to the Campaign will be listed in the Ballet’s DeVos Hall program book for the 2010-2011 Season.

Grand Rapids Ballet Company’s Endowment Fund

The Grand Rapids Ballet Company’s Endowment Fund earnings support the general operations of the Company. Your gift to the Endowment Fund helps build the principal balance and ensures a base of support for the Company’s presence in the community in perpetuity. To make a gift to the Endowment Fund, you can either use the Friends Gift Form and note that you would like it to be restricted to the Endowment Fund, or contact Mary Sumners at 616-454-4771 ext. 12 or via e mail at marys@grballet.com.
